FIRE IN DEVON STREET.

This afternoon about one o'clock a fire Was discovered to have broken out at the rear of premises occupied by Mr. F. C. Griffiths, plumber, etc., and Messrs. Riddles and Johnson, cabinet makersvand upholsterers, Devon Street East. Fortunately the outbreak was discovered early. The alarm was at once given, and the Fire Brigade, under the command of Captain Bellringer., were quickly on the spot and had several leads playing on to the flames. A fairly strong wind was blowing at the time, but the Brigade, with a good .pressure of, water, were able to prevent the fire spreading to adjoining pro, perties. The fcrorkrppm >of Messrs Riddles and Johnson, together with all the tools and a "quantity of stock, was completely destroyed, whilst one corner of Mr. Griffiths' workshop is also considerably damaged. It is not known whether the workroom occupied by Riddles and^ Johnson is insured. ;The tools and stock are slightly insured, but not sufficient tos cover the damage sustained. Mr, Griffiths' property is insured. "
