OPIUM DEN RAIDED.

CHINESE RESIST THE POLICE.

/ PALMERSTON N., July 26.

A Chinese den was raided for opium by the police here last night. Trouble was experienced in (effecting < entrance to the room in which,. the smoking was supposed to be taking place, as several of the Chinese resisted the police. with pieces of .wood,; After a struggle two were arrested, and. a number of. pipes and other appurtenances seized. A small box containing opium was also found on one of those arrested. A number of others escaped through the windows while entrance was being effected. The two arrested were charged at the Court tins morning, and have been remanded till Monday next.
