Th' 1 pr pnel-n 1 than bought thi propsrey in Curru-streot, lvi: the dolny in obtaining possession compelled us to continue to occupy the p t'rtly-burnod promises for some months. Steps were, however, taken to erect a new building mova in keeping with tho increasing importance of the Herald, and now we arc in possession. Tha offices have a frontags to Currie- ! street of 33 feet, running back about 120 fest. On the ground floor at th:: front are the comrnerohl and editorial rooms, immediately behind them being the publishing and job-printing departments, behind which agiin is the machine room, with all necess'i-y conveniences. Still further back and on a higher level are the engine room and storo rooms for paper and stationery. The former con tains one of Tangyes' 6 h.p. gas engines of the latest model — a really beautiful engine — supplied by Messrs Chambers & Son, of Auckland, through their local agent, Mr R. Chambers. On the upper floor, above the offices, is the composing room, large, well lighted, and well ventilated. The offices are lighted chiefly with*" incandescent gas burners, which give great satisfaction. Mr Sanderson was architect for the new building and the contractor was Mr R. Coleman, who has carried out the work faithfully and. well, to the entire satisfaction of tho proprietor. The subcontractors were, Messrs Griffiths Bros, (plumbing), Okcys, Arnold and Earp (painting), and Russell (bricklaying and concrete work). We think we can now claim to have one of the most complete and convenient printing and publishing offices between Auckland and Wellington, and we shall be pleased at any time to show over the building those who idesire to see how a newspaper is produced.
