City Band Social.
Although the attendance at the City JJ.'.nd social, held in the Theatre Royal on Thursdiy night, was not so large as was expected, there was, nevertheless, a goodlj number of dancers present, and, thanks to the excellent arrangements made by the management, a pleasant evening was enjoyed by one and all. The floor was in excellent condition, and the music, supplied by Mr Baiti'b oreh^tra, helped materially in the success of the social. To the following ladies is due the credit for the tastefu ly-displayed supper :—Mesdanies Dockrill, Smith, Frank Newell. S. Hill, and Haigh, and Miss Nichols, Mrs 11. W. Cottier and Miss J. Cottier boing *\ssponsible for a number of very preth decoration*. Tha duties of Ms.C. were carried out by Messrs F. Thomson and F#W. McComish. During the evening the Mayor (Mr Dockrill) presented, on behalf of (he members of the Band, the Secretary (Mr Frank Newell) with a case '■. of pipes. In doing ko he referiv-d to the j grjut interest always displayed by Mr j Newell in the affairs of the band, and to theready ass.'s'anceinvarlab'y givon by the Band itself in anypuHic matter. Cheers were given for Mr Newell and for His Worship.
