WAITARA.

[from our own correspondent.] Ai'RiL 21. — We had a visit from the London Bellringers on Friday evening. They performed to a full house in the Town Hall. The various items of the programme were greatly appreciated, and in response to the pronounced wish of the audience several oncores were given. The s.s. Manaia, which in coining into the river on Wednesday grounded just outside the bar, is still on the spit; but as she is lightly loaded, and the tides are making, it is hoped she will soon be successfully floated. On Sunday last hai vest festival services were held in the Wesleyan Church. The church was tastefully decorated, aud there was a large display of grain, flowers, fruit, and vegetables. The choir was strengthened by the local orchestra, under the conductorship of Mr T. Hughes, and rendered several anthems, as well as the usual hymns. Suitable and instructive sermons were preached by the Rev. J. T. Pinfold to large and attentive congregations. In the evening the church was packed, some not being able to gain admission. Much interest is being displayed in district school matters. The following gentlemen have been nominated as candidates for the office of " School Committeemen ": — Messrs J. Bayly, F. Bluck, A. Cox, J.-Colsun, J. R. Clark, Wm. Free, H. Halloran, J. Houston, J. E. Moore, S. Nicholls, W. Oxenham, G. Pearce, W. Stoddart, Gr. V. Tate. It is to be hoped that as the householders have a good choice they will vote for men who \yill look well after their interests, and make i our school very successful in fulfilling the mission of its existence.
