TARANAKI AGRICULTURAL AND PASTORAL SHOW.

President: Colonel Trimble. Vice-Presi-dent: Mr. B. Olson. Committee: Messrs. J. Jury, W. Bewley, A. Davidson, W. F. Hoskin, R. Street, H. J. Honeyfield, F. J. Mace, H. Okey, H. Newland, E. Marf ell, T. Glare, J. Morris, W. Rowe, and B. S. LonoistaflE. Secretary and Treasurer: Mr. J. 0. Davies. Exceptionally fine weather prevailed on Wednesday, the day on which the fifteenth annual Agricultural and Pastoral Show of the Taranaki Society took plaoe on the Racecourse; but-notwithstanding this fact the attendance at the Show was only moderate,' as were the exhibits. The largest number o£ entries was in horse stock, but in sheep And cattle the entries were very small — so small, in fact, in some classes that there was no competition at all on account of there being only one beast exhibited. There was only one exhibition of pigs, and > as for farm implements and other industrial products, they were conspicuous by their absence. In the blood entire competition only two animals entered, the prize going to Mr. M. Cunningham's The Dauphin, who also carried off the champion silver medal. The firstcousin to The Australian Peer, the winner of the Randwiok Plate and Melbourne Derby, was greatly admired, and the judges expressed it as their opinion that he was a very high-class animal indeed. The Governor, his competitor, was aIBO favorably noticed. Kaitpo, entered by the same stockowner as The Dauphin, carried off the prize for best blood mare; and Mr. A. W. Henderaon'B colt, by The Dauphin, was successful as a blood colt under three yearß, the judges remarking he was "the best youngster on the ground." In other blood stock, the Dauphin's progeny were predominant, — the special prize given by Mr. Cunningham for the best foal by that sire falling to Mr. Henderson's colt. The judges chose between him and a sister owned by Mr. J. V. Dingle, at the owners' request, and gave their decision in favor of the colt. Four competed in the draught entire class, the palm being awarded to Mr. Mitchell's (Manaia) Director, an importation from Oamaru, whose sire is the famous Young Sanker. He alao took the prize ab a draught colt under three years, and the Champion medal for best draught entires. Mr. W. Russell's Young Charlie greatly took the judges' fancy. In two of the four hack events, the entries were above the average ; but in each of the two classes of ladies' hacks, there were only two competitors. The prize for the best trap horse fell to Mr. O. Samuel's Roger. There were three other competitors. There was a poor muster of cattle, but those exhibited were very good. Mr 0. Wells' shorthorn bull (Baron Amiens) took the prize for his class, and also the champion medal. The absence of Herefords was marked, Mr L. Read only exhibiting two bulls in that class. Mr Olson was to the fore in the Ayrshire breed, and succeeded in winning a number of prizes with his animals. There were six cows entered for the dairy class, Mr Marfell's Lily taking first honors, with Mr S. W. Jackßon's Beauty so close up that it was found necessary to go into fractions in the test to award the prize. Messrs H. J. Honeyfield and W. F. Hoskin were the principal exhibitors of sheep, of whioh some fine specimens were to be seen. Mr H. Okey took the. champion medal for the best ram. The exhibits of wool were few, Mr N. King's special prize being awarded to Mr. W. F. Hbskin. Poultry was fairly well represented, and the same might be said of -the oanine tribe. Only one item in the catalogue fell through altogether, and that was the shearing match, which did not eventuate onacoount of there not being sufficient entries. The majority of the judges were from the Plains, and their decisions appeared to give satisfaction, although we heard several complaints as to the awards. Tbe proceeds at the gates were considerably below the receipts of last year, only going £13 11s. The publioan's booth was run by Mr. H. Hammond. The Vice-President's prize of £2 2s, for the scorer of most points in horses, cattle, and Bheep, fell to Mr. E. Olson, who scoted 15 points, all in cattle. Appended is the prize list: — HORSES.
