that took place in the evening, in the hall, in aid of the band fund was a great success—in fact, being without doubt, the best ball as regards attendance that has ever taken place in the hall. Dancing commenced at 8 o'clock to music played by the band, who supplied the music for about half o£ the program mo ; an able orchestra supplying the music for the other half, both under Mr. Geo. Garry's conduotorsbip. The orchestra was composed of the following instruments: Messrs. G. Garrav(pornet), Higham (violin), H. OottieiJ' (fciid' cornet), F. Humphries (2nd violin), 0. Shaw (double bass), W. J. Shaw (clarionet), T. Rennell (piano). There were twenty-five dances, several being extraß, which detained the votaries of dancing till about two o'clock in the morning. Mr. J. Paul performed tho duties of M.O. in his usual able manner. The following was the programme on Wednesday evening: —1. Mazurka — "Lydia" ; 2. Quadrille—" The Bantam " ; 3. Waltz—"Georgia"} 4. Polka—« Rippling Rill"; 5. Lancers —"Pinafore" : 6. Waltz—" Victor" ; 7. Schottisohe— "Flirting"; 8. Mazurka—"Evergreen" ; 9. Waltz—" Tda May"; 10. Galop— " Plantoon-Fire" : two extra danoes ; 11. Polka—"Kirmes'*; 12. Lancers—"Queen's Own" ; 13. Waltz—" Bird of Paradise" ; 14. Mazurka — " Etelka'?; 15. Galop— « Help 'em out"; 16. Polka—" Blue Bird"; 17. Lanoers—" riarmonio" ; 18. Waltz— " May Sou ad " ; 19. Sohottische—" Better Times" ; 20. Waltz—" Tres Jolie," It was estimated that at one time there were at least sixty couples dancing at one time. The supper that was provided by the ladies was indeed a treat, the highest encomiums. bein^ passed on it by thoße who partook of it. Some excallent soup was provided by Mr Walker, o£ tbe White Hart Hotel. Muoh praise is due to Mr Paul, the hon secretary, for his indefatigable efforts ; and also to Mr S. W. Shaw, who superintended getting the floor in order. About £15 will bo available for the band after all expenses are pnid. We have letters by us from "An Eleotor," " Picis," " H," « Celt," "A Poor Bush Settler," « A Stratford Ratepayer," and "Thirty Shilling Rate." MoHt of them referring to the county election. We will endeavour to get them in before the election takes plaoe,
