Go-Ahead went ashore at Cape Kidnappers at two (/clock on Friday morning, and is now a total wreck. All hands were .saved except one fireman named James Gunning, -who would not leave the ship in the boat: when all the others went off, feariug the boat could not live in the sea. Sometime afterward, at" low water, he*attempted'to" swim ashore, but was drowned half, way to the beach. The crew and passengers" who escaped made their, way to Clifton Station. The accident is due to the terribly thick weather, which rendered it impossible tq see the land,,, the vessel being in the breakers before it was known that anything was wrong.* The' vessel is a total wreck, bottom upward, and nearly, all broken up. News haß reached here of the" wreck of tbe Sir Donald, a steamer belonging to Napier, having gone ashore about five miles to the north of Gisboruo, and broken up completely. It is feared that, all lives are lost. ■ GiSBOBNfI, May 23. — On Saturday night it was reported to the Collector of Customs here that a quantity .of wreckage had been washed up on the. beach at Wainui, ~ three miles from here".', The Collector of. Bullen proceeded to the' beacb, and found a quantity, of timber, grass seed, saßhes, add turnery, apparently for a staircase, also the mizzen-mast, with sail attached, two boats, one small, one large. The fore, part .of .the verisell was discernible on the rooks. . The opinion is that it is ' the wreck of the steamer Sir Donald , whioh left Napier for Blackhead on Tuesday night.
