LAND BOARD.

The Land Board met 0:1 Monday. Present : The Chief Commissioner (in the chair), Me&srs. Kelly, Standish. and Syme. JElthavi Village. — The Chairman read a letter which he had addresse 1 to the Government re clearing the site of Eltham Village. The letter directed the attention of the Government to the fact that the reason the Board had requested that the site should be cleared - was for the purpose of enabling the site to be ut'lised. It was certain that no one would ever purchase a secdou in the village when the site was covered by a forest, and the lines of streets were not cut to give access to the sections. It was necessary that a village should be established on the site, but the Board could not see its way to advertise the land for sale until it was cleared. Return of Land Sold. — A return of land sold during the month of September was read, which showed that the following sales were effected :—3l: — 31 rural allotments on deferred payments, containing 2804 acres ; 1 section for cash, containing 5 acres. The total amount of cash received during the nine months CTding 30th September was £0883. Transfer. — J. T. Keelson applied to transfer section 12S. Huirangi, to George Clough. — Application granted. Application to Purchase. — An application by H. S. Matthews to purchase section 112, Tarurutangi, was received. — It was resolved to offer the section for sale by auction at the upset price of £4 per acre. Defaulters.— -The Chairman read the names of persons who had failed to pay the instalments due upon their holdings as follows :— George Parker, section 194, Moa ; and William Carter, section 204, Moa. — On the motion of Mr. Standish, seconded by Mr. Syme. it was agreed that the defaulters should be written to requesting thorn to state the reasons why they had neglected to pay. This concluded the business.
