DISASTROUS HURRICANE IN MISSOURI 80 KILLED— 2OO WOUNDED. Loxdox, April 21. A cablegram from New York states that a furious and calamitous hurricane has swept through the State of Missouri, causing the complete destruction of a whole town and great loss of hummi life. The storm seemed to bo confined to a comparatively narrow strip of tho Missouri State, and to have loft nothing but ruin and wreck in its track. The town of Marshfiold lay directly in the course of tho hurricane, and received its full force. So suddenly did the storm come on in its fury that tho inhabitants were unable to make preparations for their safety, and scores wero killed. The havoc was frightful, and the wildest terror seized upon tho unfortunate inhabitants. In a very short time the whole town was swopt iuto a complete wreck and a heap of ruins. To add to the terror of the inhabitants, aud complete the work of demolition, the ruins caught firo, and the greater part of the demolished tenements were speedily consumed, the fire being quickened by the wind. By this calamity hundreds of people aro reudered houseless, homeless, aud destitute. It has been ascertained that eighty persons wero killed. Many wero crushed to death in the falling ruins beforo they could escape ; others were burnt to death after being too severely injured to move. The number of injured persons is about 200. Tho calamity has cast a most profound gloom over the whole of the United States, aud immediate steps have been taken for the relief of the sufferers. THE WAR TN AFGHANISTAN. Colonel Sandeman will co-operato with General Phayre, to securo tho possession of the Quettah Road, occupied by the force of tho hostile Pathans, who seized and massacred a small party of British troops. News has been received that tho Hazaras have captured Ghuznee, and that tho Kohistani chiefs have arrived at Cabul, on a friendly mission to tho British. CAUSE OF KENEALY'S DEATH. The causa of Dr. Kenealcy's death was an accident to his foot, and, notwithstanding all medical skill, mortification set in, and he succumbed to tho effects. SAMOA. The Government of Germany being anxious to extend their influence in tho South Sea-;, ami to promote emigration thereto, has resolved to assist with grants of money, tho German settlers aud traders of Samoa. SIR GARNEt 1 WOLSELEV. Sir Garnet Wolseloy has boon directed to return to England forthwith. ADDRESS BEFORE THE COLONIAL INSTITUTE. Sir Anthony Musgrave read a paper before the Colonial Institute on Jamaica. There was a large attendance. THE GEOGRAPHICAL SOCIETY.
