A NEW RANGE-FINDER.
A telemeter which, if it answers the description given of it, will for many purposes far surpass any range-iindor yet suggosted, has been invent 'd by ■• professor of mechanics at the High School at Belgrade. The instrument, it is stated, will show with unvarj'iug precision the exact distance of an enemy. The rapidity with which sound travels is the basis of tho measurement of distances ; tho distances required to be known being shown upon the face of the instrument in less than a minute. Th© telemeter itself is only of about tho size of a watch, and can therefore be easily carried in tho pocket, while the error in its measurement of an} r range from 500 up to 20,000 yards does not exceed 1^ yard, and docs not increase, as it docs in any optical-finder, with tho distance. Finally, Hie co.st of tho tcloineter is only about £2. Jn a word, it is claimed for the new instrun-ent that it id portable, cheap, easy to use, and exceedingly accurate.
