SUDDEN DEATH UF A MINER.— WRECK OF THE OCEAN BIRD. Wellington, 5.45 p.m. The Provincial Government have sold the Wanganui Bridge to the Corporation of Wanganui lor the sum of £20,000. It is understood that the dispute which existed between the Government and Mr Brogden respecting the general conditions of the contracts will he settled amicably. The Judges of the Supreme Court are to be arbitrators in the matter under dispute. The working plans of the following; lines of Railway have been placed in the hands of Mr Brogden : From Picton to Blenheim; from Mat aura to Invercargill; and from Napier to Pakipalci. The line from Wellington to the Upper Hutt will be handed over as soon as Brogden arrives in Wellington. The plans for tlio Dunedin and Clutlra line have been completed, bn) are delayed being handed over, in consequence of the absence of Mr Blair, Mr Brogden’s engineer. The surveys for the Grevmouth and Brunner line will be finished in a few days. The working plans of the Auckland and Mercer line have been handed over to Mr Brogden. The Government will despatch the s.s. Albion or the Tararna with the outward mails, to catch the Suez.mail, which leaves Melbourne on the 2uth instant. It is understood that there is a probability of the s.s, City of Melbourne,

on her arrival in Auckland, being sent on to Honolulu. The Tuapeka and Beaumont Waterrace Company have applied to the General Government for aid to the extent of £2,000. The application will probably he granted. 7.26 p.m. A telegram from Charleston states that a miner named Devine was found, this morning, dead' in *tlis bed, at Brighton. An inquest was held, and a verdict of death from natural causes was returned. The' New Zealand Steam Shipping Company have arranged to collect the outward mails for transhipment to the Nebraska.
