HOLIDAY ACCIDENTS.

A MOTOR SMASH. Shortly after five o’clock on Tuesday evening, a motor car accident occured at the corner of North Town Belt and AVilkin street, the parties involved being Mr Harold AVareing, taxi proprietor, Temuka, and Mr P. Mackie, farmer, Clandeboye. Mr AVareing was driving his car along the North Belt towards town, and Mr Mackie was travelling in a northerly direction along AVilkin street towards Factory road. Both ‘cars collided at the intersection, the impact causing the vehicles to turn Tight over. There were two occupants in each car. Ernest Chapman (Greymouth), son of Mr Charles Chapman, of Temuka, who was a passenger in the taxi, sustained a bad cut on one of his hands through the broken windscreen. Dr. Scannell was early on the scene, and rendered medical aid.

TRAP ACCIDENT. Misses Annie and Norah Murphy, who reside at Milford, were admitted to the Timaru Hospital on AVednesday afternoon, as a result of a trap accident which occurred at the corner of High and AVilkin streets. The Misses Murphy were driving a horse and trap along High street, and when turning into AVilkin street, the horse, a spirited animal, fell, with the result that the trap overturned and threw the occupants heavily on the road. Miss Annie had a shoulder broken, and Miss Norah sustained a bad gash on the temple. Sergeant Dwan, who lives in the vicinity, was quickly on the scene, and had the injured women taken to the hospital, Miss H. Bremner kindly offering her motor car for the purpose. Miss Annie has since been discharged from the hospital, but her sister is likely to be an inmate for some days.
