THE WEATHER.
The Government meteorologist made the. following forecast of the weather yesterday : The indications are for variable and moderate breezes, but moderate to strong southerly prevailing. Expect dull weather, with much mist and fog in parts. Rain is probable. The barometer has a rising tendency. 1 Following- an oppressively hot day rain again set in on Tuesday evening; and continued intermittently throughout the night and yesterday. At times the fall was .very heavy, iHa vesting operations and threshing from stock will be at a standstill- for several days, but the rain will do much good to turnip crops and pastures. After a hot spell of splendid harvest weather, Tuesday night was a wet one, and rain fell all day on Wednesday at Geraldine. This will delay threshing operations, hut will do a groat deal of good to pastures and root crop's, which were needing the moisture. Most of the grain is stacked in the district, and those who dispensed with stacking and relied on stook threshing were few in number. Stook threshed grain is turning out a very poor sample.
