Extension of Mackenzie County.
On Monday afternoon a meeting was held in the Fairlie Reading Room to discuss the advisability or otherwise of taking steps to extend the boundary of the Mount Peel Road District which from the lie of the country has more traffic with Fairlie than with any other railway station on the line. The meeting was attended by fifteen ratepayers of the Mount Peel Road Bistrict.and Mr James Wilson, of Allandale, was voted to the chair, i'he chairman read the advertisement calling the meeting, and explained the chief matters they had met together to discuss. He also referred to a similar attempt which had been made some seven years ago, but which failed through tho promoters endeavouring to inclwie more country than csuld reasonably be said to send traffic within the boundaries of the Mackenzie County. A map was laid on the table showing the proposed boundary of tho portion they wished to sever from the Mount Peel Road Distriot and Geraldine County. The map was examined and discussed, and the proposed boundary was deemed a very suitable one for the purpose in view. The chairman said that if their efforts were successful the district thus annexed would form a new riding in the Mackenzie Cunty, and be duly represented upon the council of that county. After some discussion it was resolved that this meeting of ratepayers in the Mount Peel road district of the Geraldine County are desirous of being attached to the adjoining county of Mackenzie, and also that a deputation consisting of Messrs James "Wilson, W. Dixon, and J. Robinson bo appointed to wait upon the local bodies interested and explain tho wishes of the ratepayers in the matter, and also to endeavour to secure the co-operation of Mr Flatman, M.H.B. All those present then signed a petition praying that their request be acceded to.
