Seadown School.

The concert and dance ia aid of the prize fund of the above school was hold on Thuaaday, May 16th. There was a very good attendance, the sum of £l2 being taken at the door. The following programme was gone through:—Overture, Mr C, Collins ; song, “ The Swa!lows,” Mias R. Smith; comic song, “Up to Date,” Mr Bennetts; song, “ De< r Little Shamrock,” Miss Swaney; glee, “ The Village Chorister,” Mr Richardson and party; dance, stage Hornpipe, Mr J. Lynch; song, “ Tho Shamrock, the Thistle, and the Ross,” Mrs Faulkner ; comic snug, “Up came Jones,” Mr P. ilcCnskill ; Irish Jig, Master Willie Lynch. Second Part—“ Break the News to Mother,” Misa Swaney; comic song, “ The Irish Jubilee,” encore, “ Gilhooly’s ' upper,” Mr P. McCaskill; song, “The Wearing of tho Green” (Kipling’s version), Mrs Faulkner; song, Mr Richardson ; song, “ Love’s old Sweet Song,” Misa Smith ; comic song, “ Denis Murphy’s Boy,” encore, “ We’ve been touching them up a Bit,” Mr Bennetts; dance, Irish Hornpipe, Mr J. Lynch. Mr Cain acted as chairman, aud at the conclusion of the concert moved a hearty vote of thanks to all who had assisted. This was carried with applause. At the beginning of the second part Mr Cain presented the trophies woa by the pupils at tho recent Combined School Sports an follows; —Willie Cargo, Ist 50 yards niidrr 8, silver medal; Alec Hedley, Ist 75 yaids country schools, sil/er medal; Sam Cargo, 2nd high jump under 14, silver pencil case. In addition, the headmaster presented George Campbell, 15 years, with a silver meda l , suitably engraved, for his tine performances in the pole jump (Bft Gin), and high jump (4ft 9in). The room was then cleared for dancing, which was kept up.till half-past three. The musicians were Messrs Lynch (2) and Goughian. Mr Walter Hobbs acted as M. 0., aud Mr J. H. Anderson provided refreshments. Tho committee are much indebted to Mr Lyons, of the Star Hotel, Temuka, for the loan of hia piano.
