MAGISTRATES’ COURT.

Temuka, Monday, Mat 20th, 1901. [Before the Mayor (Major Havhnrst), and Mr J. Hardey, J.P.’s,] DRUNK IN A SAILWAY CAEKIAGE. A first offender was charged under the Public Works Act with being drunk in a railway carriage. Constable Cassidy stated that the guard of the express called his attention to the condition of the accused, who was drunk and sick in a railway carriage, and witness arrested him. Accused admitted the offence. The Bench directed attention , to the heavy penalty to which accused was liable. As he was apparently a respectable youug fellow ho would bo let off lightly with a fine of 10a and costs, or in default 24 hcura imprisonment. The tine was paid.
