WAITOHI FLAT.
The spinsters of the Upper Waitohi gave their bachelor friends a return ball in the schoolroom on Friday night. The inclemency of the weather, and the height of the river, prevented many from attending, among others the secretary of the spinsters' committee, Miss Jones. However, those who were present were determined to enjoy themselves, and they did. Great pains had been taken to beautify the schoolroom, the only fault in that respect, in the eyes of some at least, being the comparative smallness of the cabbage tree in the corner. There was no getting behind it at all. Otherwise the arrangements were perfect, the refreshments, supplied by Messrs Kirby Bros., being very good indeed. Mr D. Frazer, «the M.C., saw to it, that the dancing was brisk, and in the waits songs were contributed by Messra Stevenson, Stumbles, D. Fraser, lzett, G. Johnson, Depree, uud Kee. Altogether the spinsters iu Bpite of adverse weather, are to bo congratulated upon the success of their effort.
