HILTON.
[From Our Own Correspondent] The weather has cleared, and roads and fields are drying fast. The days have been very warm but the nights hare been frosty. The postponement of the school children's entertainment last week caused some disappointment. It is to come off on Friday night without fail. The small attendance caused by the wet weather prevented the final touches being given, but the little performers have been making up for lost time this week. The survey of this end of the Arowhenua Estate is steadily proceeding, and great interest is being taken in the operations. Several of our citizens have already preempted their sections, and others have been looking for spots to suit them. Even our schoolmaster is smitten with the landfever, and is reported to have been " inspecting the property." It is said the work on the Kakahu coal and iron is suspended meantime. Perhaps if the proposed Geraldine railway came round by Hilton it would push on mining, lime-burning, and all the pursits which this district gives opportunity for developing. Our member should consider the matter.
