FIRES.

A fire occurred yesterday morning, about 9 or 10 o'clock, a few mile 3 from Geraldine, iu a nine-roomed two storey house, owned and occupied by Mr E. H. Templar. Mr Templar was attending the Geraldine sale, and, on hearing of the fire, he went home to find that the house was burned to the ground, only a few articles of furniture being saved by boys who were working near at hand. The fire originated apparently owing to a detective kitchen chimney, which, we are informed, was on fire on Tuesday night. Mrs Templar, who was at home at the time of the fire, happened to be in the garden when she noticed flames issuing from the kitchen near the chimney, which had been on fire tho previous night, and she immediatly gave the alarm, and a few lads from the farm did their best to save all that could be saved of furniture, etc. The building, which was totally destroyed, was insured in the National Office for £3OO, and the furniture for £IOO. Wellington, Sept. 9. A cottage in Dock Street, occupied by Denis Redmond, a labourer, was burned last night. Later on, an eight-roomed house, not far away, in Kent Terrace, was burned. Until a day or two ago it was occupied by Mrs Brodessa, and it was rumoured she had perished in the flames. Diligent search was made without success, but no one seemß to know at present where she ia. The furniture was insured in the Commercial Union office for £l5O. Both houses belonged to Auckland residents and both were insured.
