AROWHENUA TOWN BOARD.

The regular monthly meeting was held last night. Present—Messrs J. Ashwell (chairman), E. Brown, and E. Carr. CORRESPONDENCE. Correspondence was read— From the Commissioner of Crown Lands, stating that the thirds accruing for the period from May Ist to July 31st amounted to £ls 2s'4d. He asked that on an accompanying plan might be marked the amount of thirds due on each section, and the manner in which it was to be expended, the same to be grouped wherever possible.—The clerk to draw attention to the Board’s resolution of August 12th, and to point out the difficulty that the Board would experience in dealing with isolated sections which contributed a merely nominal amount that would be useless for eflect-

Mehrtens applying for a few loads of shingle in front of his premises. pit at his own cost.—On the motion of Mr Brown it was resolved that on similar applications the overseer be empowered to grant the same provided the work is for the benefit of the roads.

From Mr J. Brown, applying to have

the name of Arthur Colville substituted for his upon the rate roll in respect of section No. 87, Arowhenua.—Mr Colville sigxiified his consent.—Exchange to be made.

From the Controller and AuditorGeneral, covering copy of the board’s balance-sheet duly certified. From the Audit Inspector, forwarding acccount (£ll3s 4d) for auditing books, and requesting that the same be paid to the public account. T OVERSEER’S REPORT. The overseer made a verbal report to the effect that the culvert at the junction of the Swamp road and North Town Belt could be repaired by day labor at a cost off—. He recommended that the work be done at once in view of wet weather, and also that the ends of the culvert be protected with a rail, as previously suggested. The whole of the work could be done when. the proposed culvert crossing the road was put down. Complaints had been made of damage done by dogs to sheep in the neighborhood of the township, Several dogs were still unregistered, and he had informed the police of the same.

The overseer was instructed to have the culvert repaired, and pipes laid across the north bolt. It was resolved that the overseer furnish the police with a list of persons owning unregistered dogs, and request them to take action in the matter. , , ACCOUNTS. Accounts amounting to £5 17s 6d were passed for payment. FINANCIAL. It was resolved that the fixed deposit remain for a further term of twelve months. The meeting then terminated. SFECIAI MEETING. A special meeting was then held to confirm the striking of the rate. Mr Brown moved, —“That the Board rdo now strike a rate of three farthings in the £, on all the rateable property in the * Arowhenua Town District, for the period ending the 31st day of March 1892, such rate to be due and payable at the office of the Board in one sum on October 1,1891.” Seconded by Mr Oarr, and carried.
