PROFESSOR MASON.
This gentleman had again on Tuesday evening a large audience, who appeared highly delighted with his lecture on the brain and nerves. Professor Mason commenced with a discourse on the necessity of parents having their children phrenologically examined, so as to ascertain what line of business they were fit for. After having dwelt on this for some time, he passed on to the brain, producing a human skull, by means of which he showed the location of the different lobes of the brain. He next proceeded to the nerves, by asserting that the brain was an electric battery, of which the will was the operator, and the nerves were telegraph wires, which conveyed electricity through the system. After having explained this theory by
means of diagrams and illustrations, he insisted that any curable disease could be Cured by means of electricity, and exhibited two articles he had for sale, one being an electric battery and the other a galvanic medicated belt, or pad, as he called it. His lectures he said were given to advertise these. He considered that any business man who did not spend 33£ per cent, of his earnings in advertising was a fool. He also announced that he would be in the offices lately occupied by Messrs Aspinall and Salmond, Temuka, every afternoon during the week, where he could be consulted on disease and phrenological charts could be obtained. During the evenjng Mr Morris created a furore with his comic
Binging. Last night again, the house was crowded, when the professor delivered his lecture on the stomach and liver. He gave a lucid explanation of the processs through which food went in the human system, showing what was good food and what was not. He Strongly i condemned tea, said there was no proper nutriment in white bread, and the best bread was brown bread, in which all the properties of the wheat were retained. A man would not live sixty days on white bread and water, but would live a long life on brown bread and water. After having delivered a most interesting address on these points he gave a phrenological delineation of the characters of four well-known citizens who ventured on to the stage, and brought down the house by the .accuracy with which he hit off their - leading characteristics. He also announced that he could be consulted in the offices recently occupied by Messrs Aspinall and Salmond, every day, and that he would on next Friday evening, speak on the throat and lungs. Mr Morris added considerably to his already great popularity by singing several comic songs in his inimitable style.
