The adjourned meeting of the above was held on Tuesday. Present—Messrs Talbot (chairman), Bissett, Snell, and Woodhead.

CORRESPONDENCE. Correspondence was read From Mr J. G. Ruddenklau, in reference to the Rangitata Island road. Attached was a sketch plan showing the track through his property, and pointing out that the public road was most out of repair.—Tenders to be called for the work. From Mr William Hawke, animadverting on the action of the overseer and one of the members in connection with a recent case in which he was charged with

obstructing a road.—Received. From the S.O. Board of Education, agreeing to have the drain alongside Messrs Hedges’ and Woodhead’s leaseholds deepened, provided they pay half cost and the Temuka Road Board one half. —The Board of Governors to ascertain if the tenants are agreeable; if so the Temuka Road Board has no objection, and tenders will be called.

Macdonald, again drawing attention to the necessity for repairs to a road referred to in his previous letter, and agreeing to pay half cost of dedication of certain road upon the estate, in accordance with a communication from the board regarding the same.—The overseer to furnish a rough estimate of the cost of dedication, and, on receipt of an intimation of the trustees’ willingness to pay the same, the work suggested to be proceeded with, if really urgent. From Messrs Harper and Co., asking that their name might be substituted on the roll for Mr Healey’s in respect of R.S. 3151.

From Mr H. Nicholson, applying to 1 have his name removed from the roll in ® respect of property on Waitohi Flat [ lately occupied by him.—The clerk to * arrange. From Mr C. W. Gimson, applying to [ have the name of 0. Opie substituted for I his in respect of property at Winchester, . described.

The overseer’s report was read and dealt with as follows: “ Sir,—l have the honor to report for the past month as follows :—Tenders have been invited for carting shingle for repairs, and for cleaning part of the canal drain.—Re Mr Hawke’s application to have two roads on the south-west side of the Orari opened : The road Mr Hawke applied to lease, runs from Stewart’s road to the North Orari road, and is about 90 chains in length, exclusive of the riverbed. While the land on each side of this road remains in the occupation of the present owners, I do not see any necessity for opening it. If opened it would be of very little use to the general public, whilst it would necessitate the keeping of another ford in the Orari river.—Of the other road referred to only about 40 chains remain and this is available for traffic from Penny’s road to the river bank, which is about five feet high. A protective fence has been erected in the riverbed near the end of this road to prevent further encroachment of the river, and before access could be given to the riverbed, part of this fence would have to be removed. If opened I do not think this road would be used, as a good deal of rough riverbed would have to be traversed.—A wooden culvert on the Boundary road requires taking out and replacing with a small concrete one.—A wooden culvert on the Waitohi Terrace road has fallen in. I am having it replaced with pipes.—Having received the timber for repairing the bridge over the Raupo Creek, on Walker’s road, I purpose doing this work during the month. — I have, &c.,

“ F. Archer.” The overseer was instructed to substitute concrete culvert, as suggested.

“ THIRDS.”

The overseer subsmitted a statement of works upon which “thirds” accruing could be spent. The bulk of the work would be upon the Eangitata Plain, a certain amount on Rangitata Island, and some smaller sums at Winchester, The Stumps, and at the mouth of the Rangitata. TENDERS. The following tenders were received for contract No. 40, carting shingle:— P. O’Mara, Is for first half mile and 4£d for second half mile; W. Hopkiuson, Is for first half mile and 4d for second half mile, J. Davis sent in a tender worked on a different basis, which on comparison proved to be higher than either of\ above. The tender of W. Hopkinson was accepted. There was only one tender received for contract No. 39, clearing drain, and it was decided to call fresh tenders. ’ ACCOUNTS.

Accounts to the amount of £79 14s 2d were passed for payment, and the meeting terminated.
