MR GLADSTONE’S IRISH PROPOSALS.

The debate on the Horae Rule quotion was continued in the House of Commons to-day. Mr Chamberlain stated he opposed the second reading of the Bill because its passing would involve the approval of the gciural policy of the Government as outlined in May. Mr Chamberlain advocated the establishment of a Parliataent on similar lines to that possessed by Canada, and expressed his conviction that the eh ction would result in a majority of.those who supported the union belwun England and Ireland.

The division on the second rending of the Irish Land Purchase Bill will he taken on Friday. .Nearly 100 Liberals' hare pledged themselves to vote against the measure. The debate in the House of Com raons on the Irish question was resumed last niirbt, when Sir William Vernon Ilartcourt, Chancellor of the Exchequer, spoke. He affirm'd tho' the country generally sanctioned the principle of the Bills, which gome dev would be carried out, although th« present Government might be destroyed, Mr Bright writes to the Pr-ss opposing autonomy for Ireland, and says that if it were not for Mr Gladstone the scheme would not find twenty supporters.
