S BROADCAST FOR EUROPE LONDON ARRANGEMENTS PLANS OF POST OFFICE REHEARSAL FOR PEERS
Rec. 5.5 p.m. Rugby, ApnJ 29. The Post Office has made elaborate arrangements to carry Coronation broadcasts from London to 12 different countries in Europe and by radio-telephone transmissions through the international telephone exchange to the greater part of .the Empire and North and South America. The broadcast will be taken to Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Germany, Holland, Belgium, France, Switzerland, Austria. Czechoslovakia, Yugoslavia and Hungary. Commentators who are engaged in these broadcasts will speak in the language of the country to which they are broadcasting. The Post Office is arranging special lines for them, and 10 observation boxes have been made available overlooking the entrance to Westminster Abbey and four in Green Park, connected by Post Office lines to a speeially constructed control room in the Middlesex Guildhall. The total wire mileage involved- is about 50, 000 miles, and at least 150 amplifiers will be required in order that the volume of transmission over submarine cables and landlines may be maintained at a satisfactory level. The Coronation service in the Abbey will be picked up and transmitted over these special circuits. . More than 100 peers attended a Coronation rehearsal at Westminster Abbey this morning. They included some of the great officers of State, who will carry the Queen's regalia.
