'INCREDIBLE CRUELTY'

By Telegraph—Press Assn.—Copyright.

MURDERER OF MAX KASSEL. SENTENCE TO DEVIL'S ISLAND.

Paris, April 29. - Roger Vernon was found guilty of the murder of Max Kassel in London and was sentenced to 10 years' imprisonment, followed by 20 years' banishment. Suzanne Bertron was acquitted. The public prosecutor, referring to Vernon's stay at Montreal at the same time as Kassel, 'said that when a man was killed named Marty, with whom they were connected, the body was disposed of in the same manner as Kassel's. Kassel had hours of agony before his death in the presence of a murderer of incredible cruelty. The public prosecutor finally conceded that the jury might consider that in the evil character of the murdered man they would find mitigating circumstances. The sentence will be served on Devil's Island.
