CALEDONIAN SPORTS
HAWERA FIXTURE IN JANUARY. A decision to hold a Caledonian sporty meeting at Hawera on January 22 next was made at a meeting at Hawera on Tuesday night. Mr. A. L. Campbell, chief of the Taranaki Provincial Caledonian Sports Association, presided, and also present were Messrs. J. E. Campbell, C. Bowman, J. W. Velvin, D. G. Smart, D. McCormick, J. R. Nairn, L. A. Taylor, P- Little, G. Beaven, A. Braid and B. Henson. Those present . with the addition or Messrs. J. Kilpatrick and Linn were elected a committee, with Mr. Taylor as secretary and Mr. Smart as treasurer. It was decided to apply to the Egmont A. and P. Association for 4 he use of the showgrounds. The secretary was instructed to apply for championships in dancing and piping and to approach the Hawera Amateur Athletic Club in connection with athletic events. Wrestling events were also left in the hands of the secretary. It was decided to recommend alterations .to the programme of last year's fixture.

WILLIAM POWELL FILM TO-DAY.
Admirers of Jean .Harlow, William Powell and Franchot Tone will have another opportunity of enjoying their polished acting in the drama of backstage life, “Reckless,” which will commence at the Hawera Opera House today at 2 p.m. for a season of two nights and two matinees. The film is a splendid combination of music, comedy and drama, and with a bright and gay story has a wide appeal. Franchot Tone, May Robson and Nina Mae McKinney are included in the large cast. Also showing u a coloured novelty, “When the Cat’s Away.”
GIFT TO BOWLING CLUB.

In memory of the late Mr. Robert Tait, patron of the Hawera Bowling Club and a former president and club singles champion, his wife has presented to the club a large framed photograph of Mr. Tait. His son, Mr. J. D. Tait, also a member of the club, handed the gift to the president, Mr. D. McCormick, at the opening day ceremony yesterday. In accepting the gift Mr. McCormick said that he was sure that no gift was needed to keep alive the memory of one who had been so well known and respected as the late Mr. Tait. He had been of great service to the club during his long association with it, and the club would be pleased to hang the photograph on its pavilion wall with those of other members who had rendered signal service to the club.
