FORTUNATE ESCAPE
CAR PLUNGES OVER HIGH BANK. MOTORIST SUFFERS BRUISES. A fortunate escape from serious . injury was experienced on Tuesday night by Mr. Ken Butcher, New Plymouth, whose car left the road on the Tapuae hill between Omata and Oakura and rolled over and over down a 40 feet bank. The right-hand door was wrenched from its hinges and Mr. Butcher, dazed and bruised, was thrown out otherwise unhurt The car was extensively d The S accident occurred as Mr. Butcher was driving a small car down the hill. A piece of wood lying on the road touched one of the front wheels and evidently tilted in a way that interfered with the steering gear. Without warning the car suddenly swerved to the left, crashed through a wire fence and rolled down the bank on to Mr. W. Grays farm. _ , , x ~ . Mr. Butcher climbed back to the road and attempted unsuccessfully to stop two or three cars travelling towards New Plymouth. He went to Mr. Gray’s home where he received hospitality until the arrival of a taxi from New Plymouth.
