NO LEAVE FOR CAMPS
AUCKLAND SCHOOL TEACHERS.
MILITARY REQUEST REFUSED. By Telegraph—Press Association. Auckland, Last Night. The question of leave for teachers to attend military camps was again before the Auckland Education Board to-day, when a list of 15 teachers who are members of the territorial force was submitted by the Defence Department with a request that they be granted leave to attend camps on dates between February 12 and April 4. “When a deputation waited on us in this connection some time ago we promised to give consideration to special cases but asked that the department should cooperate with us by fixing camps during tire school holidays as much as possible, said the chairman, Mr. Wells. “Not one of these camps is in the holidays. “It is quite upsetting to the children and personally I do not feel inclined to disturb the work of the schools to that extent.” “The Defence Department has not worked in with us,” said Mr. W. Bowyer. “They could easily hold some camps late in January.” It was decided to reply that m view of the disorganisation that would be caused by the granting of leave the request must be regretfully declined.
