WOMEN’S INSTITUTES
Executive Committee: The executive committee of the Taranaki District Federation met at Normanby on Monday, the president, Mrs. W. Kaye, occupying the chair. There were also present Mesdames W. H. Walton (Patea), A. Morey (Waitara), A. McAsey (Te Roti), S. Lar--com (Hawera), W. H. Brewer (Kaponga), A. Whitehead (Tikorangi), W. J. Smith (Inglewood) secretary, Misses A. Coleman (Ngaere) and E. Free (Normanby). Arrangements for the half-yearly council meeting were made. The organiser, Mrs. Kaye, reported having held a wellattended round table conference at Waitara and having paid her second organising visit to Hurworth. She also reported the formation of a new institute, at Lower Mangorei, to be known as the Puketotara Institute. Warea,. Kaitake and Rahotu Maori Institutes forwarded £2 15s towards the installation of a heater in the women’s lounge at the New Plymouth hospital. It was decided to inquire the cost of a heater. Mrs. Kaye reported having attended the last meeting of the New Plymouth branch of the National Council of Women, and gave an outline of Miss Andrews’ address. In reply to the executive’s request -for equal franchise rights for country women with those in the towns, Mr. G, A. Wilkinson wrote asking for further particulars in the matter. An invitation was received to appoint a representative on the Taranaki area committees of the British Drama League. Mrs. Smith was appointed for Stratford and Miss Free for Hawera. Mesdames Kaye, Smith and Miss Coleman were appointed to consider the distribution of the institute’s relief fund.
