FRANKLEIGH PARK
IMPROVEMENTS DURING YEAR. PROGRESSIVE ASSOCIATION WORK. Steady work in the interests of the district during the past 12 months was recorded at the annual meeting last night of the Frankleigh Park Progressive Association, which has been in existence for 24 years. Mr, W, H. Sedgwick presided. The work accomplished during the year was briefly reviewed by the chairman. The borough portion of Doralta Road had been tar-sealed, the county council had been asked to complete the tar-sealing and extra street lights had been erected and were much . appreciated. The association was looking forward to the Rerbing and channelling, already authorised by the council, between Standish Hill and Clawton Street being an accomplished fact. Four talks had been given during the year on different subjects. The average attendance had been fairly good, The balance-sheet showed receipts totalling £1 17s 9d, including 8s 9d credit balance, subscriptions 16s and donations 13s, Items of expenditure were donation to Sunday school 19§ 6d, and stationery 19s Bd, leaving a credit balance of 7s 7d. The tree-planting account showed subscriptions totalling £6 4s 6d and the expenditure was 15s 8d on wire and staples and £5 on trees, leaving a credit balance of 8s 10d. The election of officers resulted:—President, Mr, W, H- Sedgwick; vice-presi-dent, Mr. F. Harrison; secretary, Mr. J. W, Spindler; reporter, Mr. M. James; executive, Messrs. Newton Allen and W. Harris; representatives to United Ratepayers’ Association, Messrs. A. S. Allen and C. H, Wynyard. In reply to the association’s request for the improvement of the Tannery Hill bend on Frapkley Road the borough council wrote stating that no funds were available for the work. It was decided to give 10s 6d to 'the Frankleigh Park Sunday school for the use of the schoolroom. A suggestion that the borough council should be approached to clean Frankleigh Park footpaths was left for discussion at the October meeting, when Mr. C. H. Wynyard will give an address, Mr. A.- S. Allen undertook to arrange speakers for the monthly meetings for a year, stressing tho need tor good attendances if talks were arranged, The suggestion that the borough council should be asked to consider a Sunday bus service to Frankleigh Park, either separately or in conjunction with the Vogeltpwn service, was left tor discussion to the next meeting. The suggestion was made chiefly jn regard to a summer service, Mr. Spindler undertook to make inquiries in the meantime as to the probable patronage by church and beachgoers.
