ST. ANDREW'S CHURCH MEETING. On Thursday evening the annual meeting of St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church, Waverley, was held. There was only a fair attendance owing to 1 the rough weather. The Rev. E. R. E. Ross presided. It was reported that the church and hall had been repaired and painted. Arrangements were made during the evening to hold a spring flower show on September 20, the proceeds of which will be added to the general church fund. The Misses Kennedy and Mr. Author Kennedy left Waverley on Saturday for Karioi, where they will spend a few days with their brother, Mr. J. Kennedy. They will then journey to Auckland en route for Sydney, where they will spend some time. Their future home will be at Wellington. Mrs. T. Bartrum, with her small daughter, returned to Inglewood during the week.

Mrs. Boyne sen. is visiting her son, Mr. B. Boyne, and Mrs. Boyne. Miss T. Muir, Waverley, who has been living at Glasgow for the past five years was due to leave on August 31 on her return to New Zealand. Mr. and Mrs. Crighton, old residents of Waverley, were the guests of Mr. and Mrs. J. Mathieson, Waverley. GENERAL ITEMS. Work at Aer'drome. Thirty-three unemployed under the direction of the Public Works Department began work at the Waihi Road aerodrome, Hawera, yesterday. They were engaged in removing boxthorn hedges and will later be employed in levelling the field. It is proposed to bring' the number of workers to 50 or more. No Bankruptcies. No petitions in bankruptcy were filed at Hawera in August. There were two in August of last year. Rainfall at Hawera. A total of 4.48 inches of rain fell at . Hawera on 16 days of August, the maximum fall being .79 inches on August 17. The amount of rain which has fallen so far this year is 43.41 inches. Taiporohenni Euchre and Dance. A euchre party and dance was held in the Taiporohenui hall recently to raise funds for the institute. Euchre prizes were won by Mesdames Reid and Hughes and Messrs. Rangiwahia and Edmonds. Vocal items were given Mr. and Mrs. Toka, Mr. and Mrs. Jones and Miss K. Reid. Dance music was played by the Mountain Road orchestra with extras by Mr. and Mrs. Jones and Miss Hetete. Soccer in the South. Hawera defeated Stratford by six goals to five in a friendly Soccer football game at Stratford on Saturday. Tawhiti and Turuturu schools drew in a game at Hawera, each side scoring one goal. Twenty Wet Days. Rain fell on 20 days at Manaia during August, with a total of 6.79 inches, making a total for the year to date of 51.93 inches. Okaiawa Territorial Parade.

An all-day parade was held-by Okaiawa territorials on Sunday, at the rifle range on the property of Mr. T. King. Lewis gun and rifle shooting were carried out under the supervision of Ser-geant-Major Rowe.

Patea Bring and Buy Social. A bring and buy social organised by the women’s guild of the Knox Presbyterian Church at Patea yielded a substantial return for the funds, those present being entertained with a short concert programme. The Rev. H. B. Burnett presided. The contributors to the concert programme included Mesdames W. G. Ingley, McDonald, Messrs S. Pauling, Watt, the Misses Cowie and M. Naismith.

Manaia Euchre Winners. The final euchre party in aid of the Manaia Self Help Club was held in the town hall on Friday evening, when there was a large attendance. Prizes for euchre were won by Mrs. Burrell 1, Mrs. Rushin 2, Mrs. Baker and Mr. Brown equal 3; Mr. Russ 1, Mr. N. D. Davis 2, Mr. E. Bennett 3. The points prizes for the series went to Mrs. Rushin and Mr. J. Barlow. A consolation prize was won by Mr. Giraud. The travelling prizes were won by Mrs. Katene and Mr; H. Hawe. A competition was won by Mr. J. A. G. Cosgrove.
