WAVERLEY FAREWELL

KENNEDY FAMILY LEAVES. The supper room of the Waverley town hall was filled to capacity on Thursday night, the occasion being a social and presentation arranged by the members of St. Francis’ Church for the Misses Kennedy (3) and Mr. A. Kennedy, who are to leave the district. In the absence of Mrs. Cleary Mrs. Hodgson was hostess. On being welcomed at the hall the Misses Kennedy were each presented with bouquets. The evening was spent with music, cards and dancing, those contributing items being Misses Leo, Kennedy, F. Flaherty and Cunningham, Messrs. W. and C. Fitzgibbon. Accompaniments were played by Misses Fahey, Leo, and Mrs. Cunningham. The Rev. Father Broughton spoke of the good qualities of the guests. He said their hospitality was known far and wide, as was their liberality. They had been pillars in the Church, and it was very hard to part with them. They would be missed in many ways, and the Church could not let them depart without showing appreciation of what they had done. Wherever they went, he said, they would carry the best wishes of the members of the Church. Father Broughton then handed to Miss Kennedy a gold initialled wristlet watch, and to Miss Nora a handsome crystal toilet set and silver manicure set, while to Miss Katie he gave a black Morocco handbag. A joint gift was also made to the Misses Kennedy—a silver entree dish. Mr. A. Kennedy was handed a gold-mounted fountain pen. The popularity of the guests was well evidenced by the rounds of applause that followed. Mr. A. Kennedy responded on behalf of his aunts and himself. Personal. Mr. L. Duffy, a member of the staff of the Waverley post office, has been transferred to Ohingaiti. Mr. S. Southon, a member of the staff of the Waverley railway station, who has been transferred to Palmerston North, left with his wife and family on Thursday.
