Justice agents have announced the arrest of Alfred Wagner, aged 38, a family man living on Government relief, who is charged with attempting to extort £90,000 from kidnap victims. The allegations included the recent kidnapping of George Weyerhaueser and Mrs. Berry Stoll. It is alleged that his practice was to communicate with families, some member of which had been kidnapped, demanding large, sums under threat of death, although in no case had he anything to do with the actual crimes. _ In many instances, however, the victims took the communication's seriously and often deposited money in hiding places as directed by Wagner. Agents watched the places and he never collected a single dollar of the large sums asked.
