MANAIA R.S.A. DANCE

STRIKING DECORATIVE PLAN. The annual dance of the Manaia Returned Soldiers’ Association/ held in the town hall on Wednesday, was an outstanding success. Visitors were present from many parts of the province. The hall was decorated with fems intermingled with coloured festoons. The sides of the interior were decorated with ponga fronds, above which were draped rnany flags. The stage was decorated with ferns and greenery. Several war relics, including a machine gun, a dummy soldier Wearing a gasmask and a bell tent, added a touch of novelty to the decorations. The whole interior presented a magnificent spectacle as one entered the main door. The following were in charge of the decorations: Mrs. P. Instone, Miss M. Armitage, ’ iessrs. Bennett, S. Blair,- B. Badlaijd, P. W. Barnes, S. Fearon, L. Simmons, A. Baldwin, N. D. Jones, J. Jeromson, J. Simpson, W. Anton, H. Mead, A. Clare, C. Abbott, P. Instone, L. Walters, F. Nelson and C. Fendall. The lighting effects were in the hands of Messrs. E. Lambert and L. Simmons . The supper tables were artisticall. decorated with poppies and ferns and along the walls were draped ponga fronds with poppies. This department was in the hands of Mesdames Cryer, V. Winter, C. R. Davies, L. Simmons and P. Instone. Mr. L. A. Walters read an from Major-General Sir Andrew Russell, who was to have opened the dance oyer the air ? buban agreement with the Broadcasting Board could not be reached. ■’ Messrs. Walters and Badland were masters-; of ceremonies. Excellent dance music was pls |®d by Jack Hooker’s cichestra, with fxtras played by Mr. M. Whalen and A > radio. An excellent supper was prof /led, the catering being m the hands of Mr. A. H. Yarrow. Members of the /anaia platoon of the Taranaki Regiment in uniform waited on the tables fn relays. Much credit of the success of the dance was due to the efficient manner in which the secretary, Mr. F. A. Nelson, carried out his duties.
