REPLY TO CRITICISM
SANDERS PARK CONTROL. MR. W. M. MOYES’ STATEMENT. Replying to criticism of the control of Sanders Park voiced by a correspondent to the Daily News yesterday, Mr. W. H. Moyes, chairman of the park committee, stated last night that the committee still had control of the ground under the direction of the New Plymouth Borough Council and that it comprised men who had personally under- , taken responsibility for the overdraft arranged for some years ago when it was decided to develop the area. “It might be remembered,” said Mr. Moyes, “that we have virtually carried the baby for years and that we. have saved the ground for the town. Your correspondent, ‘Justice,’ asks what the Rugby Union pays for the use of it Up to the present time the Rugby Union has not had any use of the - ground, but yesterday the committee agreed to grant the union the permission applied for on a basis of 15 per cent, of gross takings being paid to the committee and an undertaking being given that any turf displaced or damaged would be made good. “The ground has in the past been leased to the Tukapa Football Club, which has paid £lO 10s per year. The Cricket Association has also had the use of the ground for six months in each year and last year paid the committee £32 Bs. “‘Justice’ also asks why the Hockey Association has not been able to obtain use of the ground. Until last year no application was made and then the association was given permission to use the area at a fee of £4. far this year no application for renewal of the arrangement has betn received.”
