FATAL FALL OVER CLIFF
QUARRY WORKER KILLED 40-FEET DROP OVER SHEER FACE. URUTI RELIEF WORK ACCIDENT. MAN SLIPS ON A NARROW LEDGE. Falling 40 feet down a cliff in a Public Works Department quarry at Uruti yesterday afternoon George Wilson, aged 45 years, was killed, instantly. He received terrible head injuries. Apparently the accident was caused by Mr. Wilson’S endeavour to prevent a loaded wheelbarrow from going over the narrow ledge on which he was working. He was seen to overbalance and fall on to the rock rubble at the foot of the Cliff. He was dead when picked Up. Mr. Wilson was a married man with two sons. He was a resident of Uruti. Mr. Wilson was employed on relief work by the department. The quarry is being used for shell rock for metalling work on back-country roads. An inquest will be held.
