QUEEN CARNIVAL FIGURES. The latest progress report in connection with the Waitara queen carnival shows that the Football candidate is now in the lead with 5181 votes. The seaside candidate is next with 5076 votes and the Band candidate third with 827 votes. The Clifton Football Club’s competition for a box of chocolates was won by Boy Brown. Coal from Mokau. The auxiliary scow Tamahoe is carrying coal to Waitara from Mokau. The vessel left at 9 o’clock on Wednesday morning for Mokau and is expected to return to-day with another cargo. Town in Darkness. The electricity supply at Waitara failed on Tuesday evening for a short time and the town was in darkness. The fault was near the powerhouse at Tariki, the result of damage by the thunderstorm. Methodist Church Charge. The Re-. T. H. Carr, who succeeded the Rev. W. B. Cuming in .the charge of the Waitara Methodist circuit, conducted his first service at Waitara on Eastei’ Sunday, when there was a large congregation. The formal induction of Mr. Carr took place last evening.
