MID-DAY COMMUNITY SING

An enthusiastic management committee has recently been engaged promoting a winter series of community singing concerts to be held in the Empire Theatre during lunch hours on Fridays. Arrangements are now completed and the Mayor has consented to open the first of the concerts to-day at 12.20. Mr. J. Ledgerwood will lead the chorus singing, and the accompaniments will be played by Mr. Brian Tatnell. The price of admission has been fixed at sixpence only for adults and primary school children threepence. The concerts are to be under the auspices of the Mayor’s Relief Fund, to which the net proceeds will be given. Judging by the evident popularity of mid-day community sings in other main centres, the innovation should be eminently successful at New Plymouth, where such large numbers gather on the long shopping day;' and it is certain that everything possible will be done by the management to provide the public with interesting and enjoyable concerts. Leading artists, including Miss Elsie Courtney, Miss Riley’s troupe, Messrs. Les King and H. Crawshaw, have volunteered to assist on Friday next. Doors will open at 12 noon, and there is no doubt numbers of business people will take their lunches in the theatre.*
