Miss D. Dowsett, who has been visiting Auckland, returned during the week. Mrs. Horsley has returned to Wellington after spending a holiday as the guest of Mrs. P. Appleby. Mrs. Heppell, Tikorangi, has returned from .a visit to Whakatane. Miss O. Ellis is a visitor to Auckland. Miss E. Fraser entertained at bridge on Wednesday evening. Mrs. Purdie senr. returned during the week after spending a holiday at Mahoenui. Miss R. Fawcett, travelling organiser for the British and Foreign Bible Society, is a visitor to Waitara this weekend. A garden party in aid of funds for the seaside candidate in the queen carnival was held at the home of Mrs. R. Grant on Tuesday afternoon. Mrs. Hughson was the winner of the golf croquet, and another competition was won by Mrs. Canton. Miss Jean Anderson, who is to be married shortly, was the guest of honour at an enjoyable evening in the Soldiers’ Club on Tuesday. Games and dancing occupied the evening, and after supper many parcels were opened. Mrs. T. Fergusson was hostess at an enjoyable afternoon on Wednesday in aid of funds for the seaside candidate. Miss Muriel Pizzey. Euchre was played, the winners being Mesdames Wood and Proctor. Mrs. Les Sampson was hostess on Wednesday evening in aid of the funds of the seaside candidate. The winners of a cribbage competition were Mesdames Pizzey and Grant.
