NEW PLYMOUTH

Mrs. N. Strombom is spending a holiday at Auckland. Mrs. Wilkie has arrived from Eketahuna to spend several weeks at New Plymouth. Mrs. C. E. Williams was hostess at a bridge party on Tuesday afternoon. Mrs. L. Fairhall will return to-day after a holiday at Blenheim and Nelson. ' Miss N. Livesey, Auckland, is visiting her sister, Mrs. W. H. Whitcombe. Miss H. Wilson left on Thursday to spend a holiday in Hawke’s Bay. Mrs. J. M. Blakeney was hostess at an afternoon tea party at her home on Wednesday.

Miss Macallister, Hawera, is spending the week-end at New Plymouth as the guest of Mrs. T. Horrax.

, Mrs.’ E. A. Kemp arrived from Christchurch yesterday to visit Mrs. A. J. Rutherford.

Mrs. G. Spiers Millar, who has been spending a few days a return to New Plymouth to-day. MrsZF. Honan arrived from Auckland during the week to visit her sister, Miss Eileen Penn.

Miss Mary Hine returned to New Plymouth on Wednesday after a holiday of several months at Sydney. Mrs. Grove, Rotorua, who was the guest of Mrs. J. H. Boon for several months, left on Wednesday on her return. ,

Miss'E. Price, who has been, spending a holiday at Palmerston North, returned to New Plymouth on Thursday evening. Miss K. Glenn. Wanganui, will arrive at New Plymouth to-day to be presen at the Oliver-Pauli wedding, which will take place at Easter. Mrs R Petre, Christchurch, has been a visitor to New Plymouth for a few days this week. She left yesterday on her return.

Mrs. George Shaw and Miss Brown, Ore Ore. have been visitors to New Plymouth this week and will leave to-day for Wanganui.

A morning tea party to c^ ebrat ®. 1 th ° approaching marriage of Miss Olive Firth has been arranged by Miss Rauma List for to-day.

Miss M. Campbell, of the staff of the New Plymouth Girls’ High School, who has been granted leave of absence, left yesterday for Dunedin. Miss Kathleen Thomson, who has been visiting her mother, Mrs. W. D. Thomson, for several weeks, returned to Wellington yesterday.

A surprise party visited Mrs. T. G. Thomson at her home on Tuesday evening, which was spent playing bridge. Mrs. J. MacKenzie and Miss M. MacKenzie motored from Wellington during the week to spend a few days at New Plymouth. Mrs. M. O’Callaghan and _ Miss F. O’Callaghan, Takapau, were visitors to New Plymouth for a few days this week. They were the guests of Mrs. A. it. Standish.

Mrs. R. A. Wilson, Wairarapa, who has been spending a holiday at Auckland, will arrive at New Plymouth to-morrow to pay a short visit before returning home.

Miss Anne Atkinson has arrived from York Bay, Wellington, to take up her duties on the nursing staff of the New Plymouth public hospital. Miss Ettie Grover left on Thursday to spend a few days at Wanganui. She will leave New Zealand during the first week in May to be married in India. Miss Kathleen Thomsoi), who has been staying with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. W. D. Thomson, New Plymouth, has returned to Wellington.

Miss E. Keegan, Hawke’s Bay, is spending a holiday in Taranaki, and is the guest of Mrs. R. J. Baxter, New Plymouth.

Mrs. W. J. Anstis and Mrs. G. Anstis, Westown, have returned to New Plymouth after having spent two months holiday at Gore and Papanui, Otago. Mrs. B. Sheddon, Papanui, grand-daugh-ter of Mrs. W. J. Anstis, accompanied them on their return.

Several parties,, have been held this week in honour of Miss Avis Pauli. On Tuesday evening Miss Helen Bullock gave a bridge party, when the guests brought dainty gifts of china for the bride-to-be. On Thursday Mrs. von Sturmer entertained at a “pantry” evening, and yesterday Mrs. lan Roy was hostess at morning tea.

Visitors staying at the Hotel Imperial this week have included Mrs. B. A. Mair (Christchurch), Mrs. J. Bond Grove (Wellington), Mrs. R. P. Bond (Hamilton), Mrs. W. Mussen (Lower Hutt), Miss M. Mussen (Lower Hutt), Mrs. A. J. Jackson (Palmerston North), Miss J. Jackson (Palmerston North), Mrs. C. B. Collins (London), Miss E. G. Bailey (Melbourne), Mrs. Harries (Auckland), Mrs. Winks (Auckland). Misses Eleanor and Monica Lennon, old girls of the New Plymouth High School, are living at London. Miss Eleanor Lennon is in the National Provincial Bank and her sister, having taught in three Middlesex schools, is on the staff of the Tollington High School, where she has been for seven years. She has written to a friend at New Plymouth regretting that she will be unable to attend the high school jubilee at Easter.

Mrs. R. H. George, who wore a figured frock of biscuit and rust shadings, entertained a number of friends at afternoon tea on Wednesday at her home in honour of Miss Olive Firth, who is to be married at Easter. Afternoon tea was served in the dining-room, which was prettily decorated with flowers of rich autumn tones. In the drawing-room, where autumn flowers had again been used in colours ranging from, deep gol-

den tints to scarlet, competitions were held and were won by Miss O. Firth and Miss K. Thomson. Miss Firth was dressed in a brown and white cardigan suit and a brown velour hat, and Miss Betty George, who assisted her mother, was in a frock of lilac georgette.
