MILLING RIGHTS
TIMBER IN KING COUNTRY.
AGREEMENT WITH OWNERS.
(By Wire—Special to News.) Taumarunui, Last Night.
During the past few months sawmillers have been negotiating for the milling rights of a large area of native timber lands in the King Country, and on Saturday at a meeting of the assembled owners, presided over by Mr. Brooker, registrar of the Aotea Maori Land Board, resolutions were passed favouring the selling of the timber on two large blocks. Owners of certain Pukawa blocks agreed to selling 920 acres to Mr. Philip D. Smith for £13,500, and owners of other Pukawa blocks consented to selling 500 acres to Messrs. Winger, Hopkins and Spiers for £7BOO. The timber cited is on the western shore of Lake Taupo, six miles from Tokaanu, and the sawn timber will be carted to the National Park railway station via Tokaanu.
