MOUNTAIN VISITORS

NORTH EGMONT POPULAR. TRACKS IN GOOD ORDER. Many parties visited North Mt. Egmont at the week-end, including 17 members of the Taranaki Alpine Club, who continued with the work of transporting material for the new hut on the higher slopes. Good progress was made and little remains to be taken to the site. , There was a large number of guests at the hostel and several climbing and tramping parties were organised. s On Saturday Miss J. Kilbride, New Plymouth, made her first ascent in very creditable time. Reports indicate that surprisingly little damage was done to tracks during the recent heavy rains. Making a trip along the track to Bells Falls a guide reported that practically no damage had occurred there. The streams were in good order although in one case there was ample evidence that a creek, usually 18 inches deep, had at one time swollen to a depth of 16 feet. The continued popularity of the hostel has necessitated an increase in the staff.
