WOMEN'S INSTITUTES

Kaponga: The monthly meeting was held on. Tuesday afternoon. The President, Mr. R. D. Dagg, presided. Nominations were received for the annual election of officers which will take place at the annual meeting to be held on March 19. It was decided _ that the institute would have a Court in the pantry section at the Hawera winter, show in June. Ififotmation was received that Mrh. W. Kaye, Inglewood, the president bf the Taranaki Federation, would attend the annual meeting. A unique display of new WOol work ift black and White with a distinctive pattern was made by Miss Whmyss. A competition for six annuals Wa.A wbh by Mfs. Alan Betts, with Mrs. R. Webb second. Hostesses were Mesdaffies Hafpef and J. Brown and Miss Wefnyto.

Maxwell: Mfs. Morfisbft presided over the February meeting. Members were reminded bf the forthcoming election and that nominations for the committee wefe to be sent ift at Once. Dufing the afternoon a round-table conference resulted in a host of suggestions for the new year’s programme. The points competition, a piece bf barbola work, was wbh by Mrs. Staite, with Miss Darbyshire second and Miss Morrison third. The gladioli competition was won by Mito N. Hughes, and the children’s by Graham Hughes.

Okaiawa Maori: The monthly meeting was held recently at the residerice of Mrs. Rbkeria, the president, who presided over a fair attendance. A welcbifie was extended to Mrs. Tauroa, KaWhia, formerly a nteriiber of the Waima Institute, Hokiariga, North Auckland. It was decided that all potatoes for competition be dug by the end bf the month. A demonstration on the iriaking of a boy's oilskin coat from unbleached calico was given by Mrs. Tauroa. Only one entry was received for tl monthly competitidh. Pianoforte solos were given by Miss Areta Rakena. Hostetoes for the afternoon were Mrs. Puketapu and Miss Robinson.
