GOODWIN CUP CRICKET

MANUTAHI DEFEATS ALTON. Almost ideal weather prevailed for a week-end cricket match played in Mr. C. Wills’ paddbek between Alton and Manutahi. ■ Manutahi won on the first innings. Alton batted first and compiled 100 runs, ,J. Gibbs with 33 being the most successful batsman, while C. Allen played well to carry his bat for 23. C. Wills secured seven wickets, but W. Wills bowled consistently fox - 11 overs at a cost of only 12 runs. . Manutahi secured the necessary runs for a one innings win for the loss of five wickets, but time was played out, nine bowlers, including . the wicket-keeper, who secured two wickets, being tried by Alton. P. Wills, 35 retired, played a forceful innings and. was responsible, with J. Couch 25, for putting Manutahi in a winning position. F. Thame and C. Alien were the only bowlers to take more than one wicket. Detailed scores are:—
