NEW CONSUL-GENERAL
AMERICAN REPRESENTATIVE. ARRIVAL OF MR. G. A. BUCKLIN. By Telegraph—Press Association. Auckland, Last Night. , A passenger by the Monterey to-day from Los Angeles was Mr. G. A.’ Bucklin, who will succeed Mr. C. ,H. Hitch as American Consul-General at Wellington. Mr. Bucklin, who is accompanied by Mrs. Bucklin and their son and three daughters, left Auckland later by the express for the south. Mr. Bucklin, whose last position was at Victoria, British Columbia, has had varied experience in the American consular service. Bom in West Hartford, Missouri, in 1875, he first became engaged in law and then in university work. From 1900 to 1903 he was registrar of the University of Oklahoma, and in the following year he graduated M.A. at Yale. •! In 1904 Mr: Bucklin returned to Oklahoma, where he was professor and head of the Department of Economics and Sociology until 1906. In that year he was appointed American consul at Glauchau, Germany. Mr. Bucklin filled the position of .consul at San Luis Potosi, Mexico, from 1908 to 1910, and- that of consul-general at Guatemala City, Gautemala, from 1910 to 1914. In 1914 he was appointed consul at Bordeaux, France? where he was in charge until 1919. Of many special war activities in conjunction with the United States’ military and naval operations from 1919 t■> 1920 he was detailed to assist in the consulategeneral in Paris, and from 1920 to 1922 he was consul in charge of the Coblenz office of the American Commissioner. Prior to his appointment as consul at Victoria, British Columbia, in 1924, a position which he occupied for 10 years, Mr. Bucklin was consul at Acapulco, Mexico, for two years.
