MORE ROAD SAFETY
MEASURES TAKEN IN ENGLAND. SUCCESS APPEARS PROBABLE. (British Official Wireless). ’ Rec. 5.5 p.m. Rugby, Oct. 4. For some time the Transport Ministry, with the object of impressing on the public the gravity of the traffic problem, has published weekly lists of road fatalities. More drastic measures have been introduced recently to ensure greater care on the part of road users both motorists and pedestrians. \ It is too soon to gauge their effect but statistics published to’-day are at least encouraging, for they show that 31 fewer lives were lost on the roads of Great Britain last week than in the week preceding—l3l against 161—and was the smallest total for the last five The number of injured also showed a decrease.
