RUSSIAN PURSUED BY POLICE. -SHOT DEAD BY CONSTABLE. By Telegraph—Press Assn—Copyright. Rec. 10 p.m. Sydney, Oct. 5. The inhabitants ,of the bush village of Nowendoc, near Walcha, have lately been terrorised by the doings of a Russian, Alexander Harrast, who has camped in the hills, possessed firearms and eluded the local police for a long time. Harrast to-day met his fate at the hands of Constable James Gilroy, who pursued him on horseback' and called on him to surrender. Harrast refused and began to attack the constable with a stick and was finally shot dead.
