NEW PLYMOUTH COMMITTEE. The monthly meeting of the New Plymouth branch of the Plunket Society was held at Plunket House on Monday afternoon, Mrs. W. C. Weston presiding over an attendance of the following members: Mesdames W. J. Ewart, Franklin White, C. E. Roebuck, W. R. Wade, Eric Shaw, J. H. Boon, G. Loveridge, G. W. Haughton, W. H. Woodward, J. M. Clarke, R. A. Boon, E. J. M. Ferguson, J. M. Warnock, F. S. Grayling, J. C. Irving, R. Lealand, M. J. Neville and the honorary secretary and treasurer, Miss B. Balharry. Reference was made to the death of the late Mr. T. C. List, and as a mark of respect the members stood in silence while the following resolution was read: “The Plunket Society of New Plymouth wished to express its regret at the death of the late Mr. T. C. List. The society was indebted to him for many kindnesses, and it would like to send its very sincere sympathy to Mrs. List and her daughters.” The nurses’ report for the month of August was: Number of babies on the books under two years, old 409, new for month, 23; visits paid to homes, 270; visitors to rooms, adults 464, babies 380, older children 145; adults advised on domestic hygiene, 95; advice to expectant mothers, ' 10; expectant mothers still under supervision, 28; older children still under supervision, 292; telephone calls, 244; letters written, and received, 50; visits to Inglewood 5, old babies 92, new 8; Waitara, 5 visits, 65 old babies, 3 new; Urenui, 2 visits, 38 old babies', 1 new; visits to Okato, 2, A meeting of Taranaki Plunket nurses, it was reported, took place at Hawera on August 4, when the nurses met to confer on the many problems which occurred every day in their work amongst the mothers and babies. This conference was greatly appreciated by the nurses working in single-nurse districts and it was hoped it would be possible to hold the meetings quarterly in future. Mrs. Franklin White reported that there had been a steady supply of second-hand clothing coming from mothers and from committee members as well for distribution amongst the babies in need of help, and she Spoke in high praise of the generosity of all who had contributed. Arrangements were made for the annual baby day appeal. Misses J. Anderson, F. Bullock and N. Moyes consented to act as conveners for the sweets stall, while Mrs. J. M. Clarke and Mrs. J. H. Boon will be in charge of the mothers’ stall, in conjunction with Mrs. J. Leggat and Mrs. R. Bailey. A mock trial has been arranged. An old clothes and jumble sale will be held. The members who had attended the recent Plunket conference at Wellington visited the Inglewood and Waitara subbranches during the month and gave accounts of the work done. The society acknowledged the following subscriptions and donations received during August: Mrs. F. S. Grayling 10s 6d, Mrs. G. McDonald 10s, Mesdames G. Strang, N. R. Healy, G. Fluker, C. Williams, E. Foreman, J. Bigelow, L. B. Blundell, R. Short, H. A. L. Freeman, R. Yeates, J. Peel, H. Taylor, D. Rotheray, D. McLeod and H. G. Calder each ss.
