PURANGI SCHOOL CLOSED
SICKNESS IN EVERY FAMILY. QUEEN CARNIVAL CANDIDATE. At a meeting of representatives from Matau, Ki,ore and Purangi it was unanimously decided to elect Miss Doreen Rawlinson as candidate for these districts in the queen carnival in aid of church funds for the Taranaki East parish. Mr. and Mrs. F. J. C. Turner, who have been motoring in the Auckland district, have returned to Purangi.
When the school re-opened, owing to the epidemic of measles which has affected every home in' the district, there was an attendance of only three scholars, so it has been deemed wise to close the school for a further week. There has been a lot of sickness among dairy cows this winter, and one farmer has lost several good animals close to profit. A good lambing is reported with numerous pairs of twins in most flocks.
Rain is needed and would be welcomed now as feed is becoming scarce.
